EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique uses age-old wisdom with modern-day psychological discoveries to address physical and emotional problems. Stress is a major cause of disease today and as more research is done and reveals the damage long-term stress can cause, the more we need tools to combat this stress.
EFT is a scientifically proven technique for stress-related problems. The end points of the meridians of the body as taught in Chinese Traditional Medicine are lightly tapped upon while voicing the problem along with personal affirmations. This stimulation of the meridians causes a response in the nervous system as energy is moved and released, creating a freedom from the issues at hand.
Tapping, as it is also called, helps to ease chronic pain, phobias, addictions and emotional problems such as depression and anxiety and PTSD. It has also been described as ‘acupuncture without needles’ as the same points that are used in acupuncture are stimulated to move the body’s energy and calm the nervous system, and thus reducing the fight/flight/freeze response. There are over 300 research papers available showing the efficacy of Emotional Freedom Technique in addressing emotional, physical and mental issues.
A typical EFT session begins with a description by the client of the issue to be addressed. The physical effects and sensations are measured and then the tapping starts. As the process continues, so changes or sensations will be felt in the body. Tapping goes on until the client feels that the issue has been resolved and this is confirmed by changes of sensations/thoughts/emotions that the client experiences. This usually takes about an hour, but sometimes a much longer period is needed as different issues unravel. I have personally helped people to overcome spider phobias, fear of flying, chronic shoulder pain, headaches, anxiety, bullying, and exam anxiety.
